Thank you for your prayers and contribution. Lavanya's condition has stabilised. Doctors will soon wean her away from the ventilator support. Difficult to predict how long she would be in the hospital and how much more funds will be required. As of now, we should be able to cover her expenses. Will let you know should we require more

Six year old Lavanya was a girl leading a carefree life in Nellur District, Andhra Pradesh. Attending school, playing with her friends and helping out her parents little bit in their daily chores was how her typical day was. Till calamity struck in the form of Dengue. She started developing fever and body ache on 25th October, 2009. Her parents took her to the local doctor who gave her some tablets. Since her condition did not improve even after three days, parents took her to Nellur Shridhar Hospital and in turn referred to Narayan Hospital. Suspecting Dengue fever they asked the child to be moved to a hospital with better facilities in Chennai. That is how Lavanya landed in Child Trust Hospital on 4th November.

From emergency ward she was quickly transferred to the Intensive Care Unit. In the meantime, Dengue fever led to multiple complications such as hepatitis bleeding and pneumonia.  Doctors are doing their best to save the child. Though it is an unphill task, we are hoping that she would make it through. As per 5-Dec-09 reports her condition has stabilised. However she has cranial bleeding that might affect here neurologically. Doctors will not be able to diagnose to what extent till she regains her consciousness. She sure requires your prayers and best wishes

It is amazing to see the fighting spirit of the entire family - child and the parents.  How else can one explain the fact that despite being a fruit vendor earning Rs. 4000/- per month, they managed to raise around Rs.3.0 lakhs for her treatment.

Funds were raised by pawning their jewellery and borrowing money from friends and acquaintances. However they still require approximately Rs.1.8 lakhs for Lavanya's treatment. They have come to a dead end as all their resources have been tapped dry. In fact, it has become virtually impossible for Madhava (the father) to borrow any more as the word has gotten around that he is already heavily in debt.

Madhava and Krishnaveni (Mother of Lavanya) are praying for the day when their daughter will get out of ICU and be taken home to her 5 year old brother
